oh no I'm going to miss this I've inadvertently made an appointment to have my balls nailed to a tree.

You can still watch on Sky Go.  Don't fret.

I personally think they need Bellingham or Foden as the attacker behind Kane.

Good chance to rest Foden with 3rd kid on its way.

I would like to see Trippier on the right as his crosses are decent.

That leaves the left either Shaw or I guess Walker and surely Gordon on the left mid.

Now if Bellingham is the attacking mid we have Rice sitting and the media seemed to have decided on Mainoo, not sure to me that he looks like a holding midfielder so what about this Palace chap, Wharton?

Based on form this season, there's only one choice.

Saka is more direct and faster apparently but in reality he hasn't been.

Southgate putting his selfish pride before the team.

I cannot stress enough how much I dislike him.

Mark Kelly/Poch levels.

Cut from the same cowardly risk averse cloth both vibes merchants "coaching" on the basis of keeping the atmosphere "up".

It works to a degree but not when the chips are down and the players suss you out as we've seen with Bellingham who is seemingly sulking to get his dance partner back in the side.

If we survive this and go through, we’ve massively got away with it. Southgate cannot pick the same 11 for the next match. He will though as he’ll use qualification as justification and will completely ignore the performance and the fact we should be out.

I quite like the 3-3-2-2. Gallagher is a one-man pressing machine, though it would be easier if he had some help.

I was thinking the same.  He was pressing but Toney wasn't.

I think what Southgate is trying to do is that he was right from day one with his selections. Making any changes to the system in his head means that he was wrong with his choices and he wants to do everything to avoid this.

He was super nervous in his post match interview, twisting and turning, scratching his head, not knowing where to put the water bottle.

Phil McNulty on BBC:

The introduction of Chelsea’s Cole Palmer enlivened England, once again raising questions about Southgate’s decision not to start him after his impressive cameo against Slovenia and to only make one change as he brought in Kobbie Mainoo for Conor Gallagher.

Odd, I thought he brought on Eze for Mainoo. Was he watching the same game? It's quite funny, though, that the BBC Man of the Match for the last three games have been Hjulmand, Oblak and Schranz (so far). Also, all the Slovakia players were rated above our best (Toney). Maybe right.

I think the Mainoo reference was for the starting 11, just poor grammar.

If you look at Southgate's club managerial career, it should tell all about his abilities - He's been riding on the back of Steve Holland for a good while in the England job. You can get away with that in a National Team, the loyalty thing works both ways - Not so easy to do at club level though, there's too many games. I watched the looks that Southgate was getting from Holland during the game and if my reading of them was correct, I'd guess at, let's say 'differences of opinion' looks possible.
