Hi all.

I've being trying to get a London Marathon place for years without success, and this time round was privileged enough to have Barnardo's offer me a place. I run a lot but never this distance, and I've never done any fundraising, so this is all a bit daunting. Charities understandably are keen you set up fundraising pages ASAP, so I've done that today even though race day isn't until 27th April 2025.

If you'd like to support me, it would be hugely appreciated.

If you're sick of my moaning about Clearlake and don't really want to support me at all, be assured I'll be in agony at 6am on cold, dark mornings for pretty much all the winter and you'll get your money's worth from my suffering.

Any little helps!

Cheers

Dan

Disagreement/Agreement on any topic does not make me or anyone, I hope, think any less of a member or churlishly refuse to support a worthy cause..I take the tongue in cheek aspect of your comment😋and very impressed and applaud your efforts... will look at the sponsorship a little closed to the time.

Not a great time for me at the minute.

Just a side note...I may not always agree with your posts but I always read them.🤠

Even just kind words and encouragement are a help!

And thanks to all above and @Sciatika, a real boost to get a healthy amount even before I've properly started hounding people. Doesn't come naturally to me to ask people for money, especially when so many have so little, so it is hugely appreciated.

I often think here when I'm annoyed by something someone has said, or suspect someone is annoyed by me, that we're more unfiltered in how we express ourselves here than we might be with people we know and think very well of in person ... I suspect I'd get along very well with most people, and most would get along with me! Even if it doesn't always seem that way based on what each of us thinks of Mudryk ...

Agree with the unfiltered bit but I see it as a positive in that, as mentioned elsewhere, there is no question or doubt in anyone's mind that everyone here is True Blue and even the debates that get a bit "personal" pretty much stem from that loyalty and the degree in which a Chelsea issue is felt by a member. We all express ourselves differently according to our personalities and I feel we are more honest or forthright than maybe in more relaxed social settings.

This Forum is as good a gathering of across the board Blue faithful as one could hope for.

Oh..and Mrs C is always a shoo in for a worthy cause!

I don’t envy you the training! I remember the pain of endurance events only too well, not just the physical pain but overcoming the mental pain to keep going when your body wants to give in. The feeling when you finish though is worth it all! My poor old knees are well past running (they barely cope with walking some days) so look forward to following your story up to the event.

You’re a brave man!

Having visited your page to donate I was taken at how young and small you were and what a great grasp of the language you have despite your age.

If you get tired maybe the fellow behind you in the photo can pick you up for a rest.

Agree..I have a young (well to me, known him since he was 13/14). friend .Army Ranger qualified and now Green Beret. His totally unassuming stories of the some of the training episodes and the mental strength needed I can relate to TVF  efforts!..it's all relative!

Amazing how the members here support others in many ways...still hope for the Human Race!

Cheers. I'm a fairly experienced half-marathon runner, and fairly fast at my best. PB of 1hr 27mins, about 10 minutes or so slower these days. But that's going at full pelt and leaving nothing in the tank as that's what comes naturally to me, so as daft as it sounds I think one of the hardest things for me is going to be the discipline of sticking to a slower, more steady pace so I'm not dead by 25k in. Hoping I can find some sort of inner zen to keep me trundling along.

Some way ahead but keep hold of the fact many of us are with you in spirit,

With your experience of half marathons I’m sure you’ll make the step up with little problem. You don’t seem the type to just “have a go” so by April next year you’ll have all your timings and distances worked out and will literally breeze round the course!
