For the Spanners i'd like to see a back 4 of : anyone but Disaster, Tosin Fofana, Cuco.

Midfield: Caciedo, Enzo, Palmer, Netto, Sancho

Forward: Nkunku

No Colwill?

Hopefully RJ or Gusto are back for this one.

Better balance immediately.

It was painfully obvious we had no balance against Bournemouth Disasi wasn't able to get up and down like Gusto.

Yes if either back then defo. Colwill hasn't been playing well, it's just being masked by Fofana's poor form atm.

I won't get to see this one as I'm out all day, unfortunately. I'm hoping Sancho and Nkunku both get a start and I'd go with Tosin as well. Keeping everything crossed that Gusto is fit for this and praying Lavia is as well.

I would rather stick with a settle CD pairing of Forfana and Colwill (for now).  I didnt watch the Bournemouth match but from what I  read Forfana had a crap game BUT i still think having a settled CD is key to building momentum

Agree.  I'd at to that Disasi should be CB3 and i'd give Tosin a go at right-back over him - he looks more mobile and confident on the ball if nothing else.

Yeah, I get that and don't really disagree, but we just looked some much calmer once Tosin came on, and it would be nice to have a game like that from the start. I do agree though that settling on a pairing is very important and in the long term Fofana is likely to be part of that (if he stays fit).

James out and returning no time soon.
As frustrating as this is for us, James himself must be crushed. I know he will never have to worry about paying his mortgage or the price of fuel , but to spend your career lying on a treatment table is devastating.

It’s gutting for him and it’s looking like a tragic waste of immense talent. It looks as though the surgery he had in the summer hasn’t made a difference and that felt like a final roll of the dice.

Really sad for him, but the club need to do something in January to give us a proper back up at RB.

….and btw, knowing his issues, why did we loan out Gilchrist? He looked a solid little player. We are now putting square pegs in round holes.

Gilchrist is a CB that initially played RB to plug a hole.

Obviously playing RB at present for Sheffield United since joining on loan, the Premier League it is not however.

He’s played almost all his senior football at right-back and in my mind that’s where he’ll probably stay. He’s not big enough tobe a PL centre half, they have to be exceptional in their reading of the game and aggressive to be his size and play in the middle.

I can only think of one who currently does that and that’s the Argentinian at Man United.

Sadly, my thoughts are that Gilchrist will be another one of our academy products that will be a good professional footballer for a Championship/lower level, flirting with relegation PL team.

So, we’ve gone from a ‘silly o clock’ night kick-off to an equally silly almost morning kick-off - must say thanks again to the TV companies for this. Added to this engineering works on my train route in, just adds to the ‘joy’ of attending games these days.

The game, if Antonio plays it gives us a bigger problem than it did in the same game last season. A fit and fresh Antonio gave great defenders such as Silva a difficult game, our current ones aren’t as good defensively as Silva. Kudos also gives the midfield a big issue, far too mobile for Fernandez to cope defensively (who isn’t mind you!), so that leave’s Caicedo to cope with him or we play another who’s role is based around defensive duties. Hope that Maresca has the balls to not play Fernandez, but I doubt he’ll not start him - we’ll have to see how that works out. Almost hope that they play Paqueta, as he’s been trash since the betting thing came out (what’s happening with that?), but as I’ve said that he’ll probably discover he’s a decent player again and have a stormer .

Down the wide areas is where I’d concentrate on attacking them, especially their left. Palmer could make hay there.

We have a very poor record there in recent years too, plus I have to say the upper tier at that Athletic stadium is probably the worst place I have watched a top level game at in all the years I’ve been going. Add to that after the game being corralled with their rancid ranks in the melee for the tubes and them crowing over their latest win over us, along with the insults also ranks right up there in the bad experience league table.

Ref:   Sam Barrott

VAR:  Stuart Attwell

Anthony Taylor isn’t reffing any games this weekend.  All the fault of the abuse he’s received online from Chelsea supporters APPARENTLY.

I generally agree, he's not big enough to really play centre half at the top level and fullback is likely to be where he ends up making his name.

As much as I like his attitude, talent wise he probably falls a touch short of quite being good enough for us, or any top half Premier League team. Like you, Championship or lower level football is likely to be where he goes on to make his name.

Trevoh Chalobah is competent at RB however. And better at it than Disasi is.

So given Reece's all too obvious issues, one wonders again why he was frozen out ahead of say, Badiashile? We could definitely be using him right about now
