From the looks of the game Thursday Felix appears to have had some coaching advice..again in stark contrast to the previous coaching staff's somewhat "Let'em get on with it" approach.🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️🤠

Yes, one of the players who is in the squad because of who his agent is and not because of performances or ability.

And yet his performance on Thursday night was a great example of why he is good enough to be in the team.

I agree, we need to find a way to get Nkunku in the team, but it’s clear Maresca sees him as the alternative to Jackson and at the moment, Jackson does deserve to be ahead of him, just.

I think it's very difficult to make judgements about a player's ability based on their performances in the Conference League. I place more weight in the fact that he didn't make it off the bench last weekend when we lost.

I raise these concerns about him because I think being in thrall to superagents is very dangerous for the future sustainability of the club. The recruitment strategy is not data-driven, it's agent and former employers driven.

Yeah, that’s a fair point, although from Felix’s point of view he can only show what he can do with the minutes on the pitch and the minutes he had on Thursday were very good. To be honest, I think Maresca will stick with Sancho, but I just feel that from a squad management POV, one of the players performing consistently well in the ‘B Team’ needs to get a start in the PL, be that Felix, Nkunku or Mudryk.

The signing of Felix was a strange one as I just don’t think we needed him, I’m not sure it was agent based, I think it was more to do with trying to manage the finances, but who knows. I don’t think we can keep criticising the clubs transfer approach when we’re seeing what we are on the field. Veiga is a great example of the clubs recruitment policy working and Madueke, Lavia, Caicedo, Jackson and Sancho are others who are starting to shine and Palmer is shining brighter than any other.

Some humble pie may need to be eaten by some come the end of the season… I hope anyway.

Newcastle twice in a few days... I've said before that I live in the Toon, and I'm braving the city centre tomorrow to watch this game with some friends. I'll be in the away end for the cup game, which is probably not a good thing given my record seeing us play there...

Anyway regarding tomorrow, we definitely should have enough to beat them. My only concern at the moment is the midfield battle.  Their midfield trio is very strong physically and not bad technically (Tonali is excellent), and I'm worried we could get bullied if we start Enzo. We absolutely need to start Lavia, and I hope the fact he didn't play Thursday means he'll be starting tomorrow. Caicedo will also need to have an excellent game, but my Newcastle friends always remind me that he got destroyed by Joelinton and Bruno when he there for Brighton. I also expect Bruno to spend most of the game kicking Palmer.

Pope is a good shot stopper but pretty awful with his feet, so I hope Jackson and others are ready to press him into a mistake. He really does have it in him.

Still, player for player, I think we're a better side than them and we really need to make it count.

I like the fact that Maresca is subtly asserting his authority, step by step.

Now he said Colwil might be better captain rather than James.

Hopefuly at some point if not at this game Enzo will be thought a lesson too. (With the prospespect him improving ofcourse)

Glorious day for it … on the golf course this morning, and it was great!

Did you get 15 holes in one like Kim Jong? 👀🇰🇵

Managed a hole after 15 on that damn second hole, though - always defeats me ….

Gusto LB is not the way I’d have gone, but got to trust Maresca. Cucurella should have come back in, in my opinion and given us the balance needed. Let’s hope it’s a decision he doesn’t regret.

I’m glad Lavia has kept his place ahead of Enzo though, he’s a brilliant player.

Come on Chelsea!

Shows just how badly the gruesome twosome and all the TBSD have done in assembling this squad when you see that bench.

Load of rubbish right there.

Gusto will invert so assuming it's based on Maresca preferring him to Cucurella in midfield.

Should completely dominate them so I doubt Gusto will spend too much time at left back.

5-0

Interesting line up... Switch Neto after 50 minutes for Sancho I think is a given, unless he really is destroying Newcastle on the wing,,,don't think he has 90 minutes in him.,,,and some wondering about the two Newcastle FBs?

Added,,Cucu played Thursday,,,perhaps a slight knock or resting him ?..big enough squad if fit to do that.

I’d have played Gusto right back and have him in very and Cucurella left back. We all know James will be subbed 10/20 mins into the second half, meaning the back line has to reshuffle at some point, which I’d personally always try and avoid doing, but as I say, I trust Maresca and he definitely knows better than me!
