My Blood Is Blue Posted November 9 Posted November 9 General chat about the England national (rugby) team. 1
My Blood Is Blue Posted November 9 Author Posted November 9 Unlucky last week against NZ, this week should be more straightforward vs a poor Australia side and it’s started well! 1
Backbiter Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Doesn't look like a poor Aus team to me. Massive improvement since RWC 23 when Wales put 40 points on them. 1
My Blood Is Blue Posted November 9 Author Posted November 9 I spoke far too soon, England were awful after the first 10/15 today. Really really poor. 1

Just caught up with this quote! If you want to see really poor you should watch Wales. The depressing thing is that I can't see any way out of it. Welsh rugby appears to have no future as well as no present. The regions are rubbish, the National team is in the wilderness, the grass roots game has been neglected by the WRU in the complacent belief that fully formed Welsh players would magically appear....this could be terminal for Wales. Georgia came within a whisker of beating Italy recently and I am confident that they would beat Wales. Today we play the Springboks in what will inevitably be a humiliating thrashing. I can't see Wales being a force in world rugby ever again, let alone in my lifetime. What's happening to the National side is the equivalent to Chelsea being relegated to the Conference.

Yeah, England are in a poor run of form, arguably under the wrong head coach, but you can see enough there in the players to know that we can still be a good side and will be again soon. Wales, I just don't know what to say, it must be so hard to watch as a Welsh fan and to see what has happened to the sport as a whole over there, exactly as you described. Why has it come to this? What happened to cause all these problems and for the decisions that have been made, to be made? Is it a lack of funds or just the wrong people doing the wrong things in the wrong jobs?

A terrible, parochial, complacent administrative regime which has failed to invest in the roots of the game in Wales. Apparently football is more popular than rugby now. It breaks my heart. 1
