United have Palace away (who are in very good form) Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton away. That is not a nice run of games.
Newcastle have 3 away games left out of their 4, the 1 home game being against Man Utd.
Our run-in is the kindest out of the 3, so 6th spot is certainly doable. I think 3 wins from the remaining 4 should be enough, allowing for a draw at NF or BHA.
We were recently a few times in this position and blew it. It's the hope that kills you...

Great interview, thanks for sharing.
The bits about Mourinho were very interesting, especially how he still adores him but was practically pissing his pants. It also highlights why a comeback wouldn't work with the current regime.

Now he just needs to score like Drogba. Silly? In my opinion, he's one of the few with a decent haircut.
Who’s that thin fellow? 😆

From today's press conference ahead of West Ham:
Reece James is injured, how long could he be out for?
"I think it's a sad moment because he's our captain. He was so excited to be a captain, full of energy. I think we are going to assess him day-by-day as well as possible. For sure, he is going to become stronger than he was, we are going to help him to become stronger than before."On Reece James, is it a hamstring injury? So is it not that serious if it's a 'day-by-day' situation?
"Yes, it's a hamstring. It's not a few days, it's maybe a few weeks. The good thing is that it's not a good issue. The most important thing now is to worry about anticipating problems. When he plays again, we hope he's stronger than he was before. We will assess him day-by-day and make a plan every day."
At least it's weeks not months... But the question now is how long until the next one? Really sad...

You can't I don't believe. Shirt is up for pre-order but won't actually be released until a sponsor is signed.
Quoted part of the announcement;
“Fans should be aware that the 2023/24 home kit that features on pitch may subsequently feature a front-of-shirt partner. The club will communicate any changes to the kit in due course.”
I don't need mine featured on pitch...😉

Until now, I felt that Potter was too passive and emotionless on the sidelines. Besides constantly clapping, he didn't do much. Just like a spectator. However, yesterday he was full of emotions, instructing the players throughout the entire game and pulling some players aside to give them specific instructions. Just as it should be.
After the final whistle, all the players were thrilled with him. I think he hasn't lost his connection with the players and they believe in him.

And I will never forgive GP for not wanting MM in the first place ☹️
Did Potter say this?

If we finally get that stroke of luck on our side, I can see it being achievable tonight.

To date, we have enough donations to cover costs until March 2023.
Are you sure about the year? 😅

Same for me.

Good news: Charlie Webster has signed a new contract.
Bad news: It's only a one year extension, until summer 2024
Yeah, I think it's kind of 'let's see how much play time I get and then decide on my future'. That sounds reasonable from him. If we keep buying top young players, his chances will be slim to be more than a back up for quite some time.

Thankfully it's about half the price, and the cost over the contract will be quite low, so I suppose the risk vs reward isn't as bad, but still.
Is anything known about his wages?

@mora Getting Charlie Webster tied down to a new contract would be brilliant. It did seem at one point that he was definitely walking away. Very talented young player. Of course not all will make it later down the line, but we look like we'll be well stocked for midfielders for the next 10 years!
Yes, that was the rumor doing the rounds. It would be interesting to know what made him change his mind.
Was he promised minutes in the first team. Kind of like what was done with Hall. Although, his appearances were more due to injuries.
Would he have signed if we got players like Rice, Caicedo and Enzo? -
Another potentially good news.
QuoteChelsea are confident of renewing the contracts of both Charlie Webster and Malik Mothersille as they look to stave off fears of a youth exodus amid high spending in the first-team squad.

Chelsea academy defender Bashir Humphreys is joining 2. Bundesliga side Paderborn on loan until the end of the season.
QuoteChelsea development squad teammate Dion Rankine is expected to sign a new contract this week that will keep him at the club until June 2025.

@JaneB and @Michael Tucker are both our beloved moderators again, so be nice to them.
Yeah, but do they have full access?
I work in IT and have heard a few stories where companies had to start from scratch because, for example, the guy with access to the database got under a bus. Not that you're going to get under a bus 😛

Is there more than one person with admin rights to manage everything? You never know...

I think you need to ask UEFA, not me, but the talk is of "costs", and when it comes to transfers, Costs = Transfer Fee + Wages + Agent Fees/Commission
Sure, but the wages continue to be paid after 5 years...
The talk about wages reminded me of the NHL. There, long-term contracts were (still are?) done with a salary structure of e.g. 5 million for the first two years, 10 million for the following two years and then 1 million for the remaining contract period.

It's been taken down I believe, "low effort".
Better off posting something in the Daily Discussion thread there, not as visible but it won't be removed. Might just have be something that those of us on Reddit promote in there with daily reminders.
Although, might be issues with posting a direct link. They're a bit funny with that sort of stuff.
Or you could come up with a meme as it's 'meme tuesday' today. 😛

Yes, from what I've read it's not the length of the contracts themselves that are the problem, but the amortisation period that goes with it. I also understand - but I may be wrong - that it's other PL clubs that have complained to UEFA. Looks like clubs will be allowed to offer contracts of whatever length they want but the costs (transfer fee and wages) will be amortised for a maximum of 5 years should the contract be longer than 5 years.
How would that work with the wages?
-
It will be interesting to see if Boehly continues to push for a multi-club structure to retain the young players. I think he will but not sure how high priority it is right now.
That would be a better approach for the players as well as from an economic standpoint than a loan army (which is now more limited anyway).
Supposedly, they have been looking in Portugal and France. But I haven't heard anything recently.
Of course, that doesn't mean we don't need to get rid of the deadwood....

I agree, the performance was pretty good. It should have been a win though.
Midfield is still pretty lousy, there were hardly any progressive passes in the whole game.Next game with Mudryk 90 minutes. Game after that Mudryk and Felix. Additionally, some of the injured could come back. Can't wait for it!

I would like a dark mode option.

Thank you. All I did was gather people together, Sam is the real star of the show 🤩
And now @morahas found us. Welcome!!
Thank you very much for the welcome. I was a fairly new member on the previous site. Still, pretty bummed when I suddenly hit a 404.
Fortunately, I found my way back through a post by Sam on Twitter. I couldn't find anything else via search (Google, Reddit, etc.).
Kudos to Sam for getting the forum set up and running so quickly. The updated software works much smoother and provides a better experience overall. Let's hope the same is true for Chelsea...😉
Thank you very much.
