We won not because Drogba was a great player but because Bayern bottled in the last minute and on pens. Didn’t really count as a win tbh - we’ve only won one UCL really.

I don't think there's any through line between RA and Clearlake, but interesting moment Nobbly. Clearlake would have probably gutted any team that was left anyway. For me this has always been more of a Clearlake problem than the players or even the managers. They pick the managers. They buy the players. And sporting directors. They are responsible.

We finished SIXTH in 2012 Bobbly!!! SIXTH!!! 🤦‍♂️ We won the CL because Tuchel is a brilliant manager in the Champions League and we had some brilliant players that season (Mendy, Rudiger, Kante, Jorginho and more). Tuchel clearly knows how to go up against Guardiola and match him. Or yes we got lucky because City didn't show up on the day. Meanwhile the 2012 team was unlucky because Bayern were so brilliant that day. Last I am talking about luck and this topic. Have a great day my friend 💙

I'm not Bobbly. Believe me - I do not want to talk about luck AT ALL. I have repeatedly said this. It's an attitude - LUCK is a part of every sport and has played into so many title races and competitions. At the end of the day, we celebrate the winners as winners and we celebrate ourselves when we win. We don't want a bottlejob Spursy second place manager in Poch and we don't want to be a team that celebrates finishing second, no matter how much luck or decisions were involved along the way. We had this mentality under Roman - no excuses, the whole world is against us. We're still winners. But if you are to force me into a conversation about luck which I don't want to have then please don't try to come up with some convoluted argument about how we were lucky in 2021 and not in 2012. I'll write down the XG Stats again for you: Bayern (3.17) 1-1 (0.60) Chelsea (2012). Man City (0.86) 1-0 (1.29) Chelsea (2021) There is no credible argument to be made that we were luckier in 2021. It is not even worth debating. I believe what @Mark Kelly has summed up well is you and others believe that some of those players who won in 2012 deserved to win based on previous occasions. Maybe you liked and connected to that team more and they were more dominant in other trophies. But the players in 2021 had nothing to do with that. Again - for me both of the trophies were 10/10. We deserved both of them 10/10. I am not interested in talking about luck with either. But please, if you force me into a conversation about luck, don't try to argue 2021 was lucky and 2012 not. I am desperately trying to end this!

We were lucky in neither. Every game has luck. You can’t rewrite games around luck. Let’s just celebrate our victories - you got me here with your ridiculous „lucky“ comment about 20/21. But if we were gonna do that - we were way more lucky in 2012.

We dominated / controlled City far more in the final than Bayern though. I went absolutely nuts.

I would say that the RA regime wasn’t perfect and broadly got overtaken by City. I am no great admirer of RA and for example think it was right we got seized. Theoretically we could have had even better owners come in. Who is to say Qatar couldn’t have achieved even more? There is no through line between RA and Clearlake though. Clearlake does not clearly prioritise winning above all else. It wants to win but we are also a business first. IMO RA wasn’t going wrong but had room for improvement. We still had a winning mentality in the club and could deliver on the biggest stages. Clearlake has ripped all of that out and it’s not coming back - any time soon, if ever.

Again, I just don't get the whole point of this conversation though Ham. Did the CL in 2012 mean more to me because of what we had won or nearly won before? F' no!!!!!!!! The only reason it meant more was because it was the first time we had won it. Also the way we won it was just incredible and magical - and of course to see legends like Drogba and Lampard finally collect the trophy. We ALSO had Premier League winners in our 20/21 team though. Honestly I am bored stiff of the conversation now but all I am saying - all our Champions League wins are 10/10. All our Premier League 10/10 - all our cups. We are a loser club now it pains me to say and nowhere near winning any trophies. We are the new Arsenal. A laughing stock. No - getting to the final by fluking cup runs against Championship opposition DOES NOT COUNT as getting close!!!! When we do win a trophy I will congratulate the boys 100% and not drag it down because it's the hated Clearlake. Don't downplay our trophies. Give proper credit to all who contributed. Again - what an irony that this applies EXACTLY to 2012 as well 🤦‍♂️ Then when I point this out - suddenly it's not actually about winning the league in the same year, it's about having won leagues in previous seasons and having been unlucky not to win the Champions League. If that's not moving the goalposts I don't know what is.

Okay but now you are just moving the goalposts. You just said you can only brag about it if you win the league. As I have said again, we were luckier to win in 2012 than 2020/21. Fact. We were far more dominant in our second CL win.

So we couldn't brag about being the best in Europe in 2012 either then? I think we mostly agree honestly but we WERE a great side in the Champions League in 20/21. We may not have been able to replicate that in the league but in the CL that season we were absolutely phenomenal. That means in that cup competition which again means more to me than the league, we were able to raise our form to absolutely be a great side on those big occasions.
