Pubs within walking distance of Stamford Bridge

Mortified to find that after being closed for maybe three years, the Finborough Arms, Finborough Road, SW10 9ED is to be turned into .... an Indo-Chinese restaurant, according to the girl on the door of the Theatre last Saturday. The Theatre will remain, but heaven knows about the club downstairs. I bemoaned the lack of decent pubs in the area, although she reckoned the Troubadour on Old Brompton Road is worth a visit. The note on the door of the Finborough suggests the Pembroke, which is just up from the Troubadour. Net home match, I'll visit and post an opinion ...

After the loss of the Fox and Pheasant to James Blunt - still there, but not as attractive; the Pelican (now the Tommy Tucker - and permanently closed); and so many others, does anyone have any recommendations?

Finally got round to visiting the Troubadour and Pembroke, before the Everton match.

A nice lady at the Troubadour asked me if I’d booked a table, then suggested I sit outside in the cold when I said I’d not booked. Politely declined and will not return.

Waited to be served for 20 minutes at the Pembroke, where they had no ales and only lager or Guiness, before someone walked in off the street and got served before me. Twice. Shan’t go back there either.

Ou sont les Finboroughs d’antan?

I used to frequent The Wolfpack SW6. Or the Chelsea Ram. Both would usually have cask ales.

It not far from a decade since I left the UK and a similar time since I went to The Bridge. The Harwood Arms was my favourite pub for a while when I lived nearby, went there often, although it got its Michelin Star and then was impossible to get a table and the portions got smaller and more intricate.

Still went there before matches sometimes though.

An interesting side topic would be what pubs have people seen Frank Lampard in. I've seen him in three different pubs. The Dove in Hammersmith, The Bear in Oxshott and every Sunday night in the King William in Shere.

Can’t drink outside on a nice day, as the back garden is now a restaurant, can’t drink in the road as banning this was a deal with the locals in return for turning the back garden into a restaurant. The old, efficient  staff have all gone, replaced by young girls. Beer is not as good. Was one of the last traditional pubs in west London, now it’s plastic. Well done, Blunt. Is that enough for you?

Does anyone know if the Harwood Arms still lets Chelsea fans in pre-game on matchdays?

Went there a year ago, and it was heaving. Nice place on a hot day

Might give it a go again before a match soon.

Thanks for the breakdown of the Bluntifacation of the Fox and Pheasant, sounds even worse than when Guy Ritchie takes over a boozer.

Fox and pheasant Used to be such a lovely pub, always had a chat with the landlord (who stood watchdog at the door to stop Spurs and other riffraff coming in), and the landlady who accepted me  as a local although I only came once a fortnight - gave me a glass instead of a plastic abomination!

I remember back in the day we went to Parsons Green for a drink and we were drinking outside close to the railway bridge and think it might have been a Sunday and there was going to be parade and while exchanging banter I noticed someone in thier slippers walking on the opposite side of the road.

'Look it's Dirty Den chaps' and so it was.

One of our more excitable chaps shouts,

'Oi, Den, Dirty Den' perhaps a couple of times and then  Leslie Grantham turns around sticks up a finger and mouths clearly,

'Fxxk Off'
