  1. I'll happily admit that, apart from Ancelotti, I did;t know much about them. I don't know where people get the time or, sometimes, the enthusiasm, to follow more than one league. I don't know much about most of the leading candidates.
  2. I suggested Havertz because he is tall and can head the ball. Too many of our attacking players are short. Liverpool fans are saying the VvD hasn't travelled.
  3. If Fofana is available, I'd go for -----------------Kepa ------Fofana---KK----Badiashile James----Kante----Enzo----Chilwell ------------------Felix --------Mount--------Havertz I am hoping that the midfielders will be able to organise cover for their runs. I'd have Mudryk on the bench because his pace would be a nightmare for tiring players in the second half. Sterling may also be fit today and might also come on later for the same reason. If Fofana is not fit enough, then I'd play Trev at RCB.
  4. It was Andrew Madley. That was one of his more competent performances.
  5. Some of the wisest people I have met are old ladies. Probably not a football manager among them.
  6. Just looked on oddschecker.com. Apparently, we are the favourites to win the game. I know it doesn't mean much, but I was surprised.
  7. I don't really know much about football outside England because I don't watch enough of it to feel my opinion is reliable. I find myself wanting to eliminate people rather than having a choice that I really like. I wouldn't mind someone who has been successful with a team with lower expectations, like Frank, de Zerbi or Silva, but that didn't exactly work out with GP. I wouldn't go for an inexperienced candidate for anything other than an interim, which seems to knock out Saltor, JT, and SFL. I am not sure about bringing back a manager like TSO or FSW. Conte would end up in fistfights with the owners. I am not a fan of Poch, Rodgers, Southgate or the football played by some Simeone teams (maybe I am being unfair and tarring him on the basis of reputation). I liked Zidane as a player (who didn't!), but is he a good coach? He was quite successful but also seems a bit excitable. Maybe, that's what the fans need. Also, we need to consider who would be up for it. Sometimes the people who are most keen to do a thing are often the ones we least want. So I am left with going back to someone like Nagelsmann or Enrique because I know less about them than others. Not exactly a glowing report. Whoever it is, they will get my support.
  8. Can the forum do votes? @My Blood Is Blue
  9. We are frequently told that the owners are looking at the stats. Maybe, we simply weren't getting the results expected.
  10. Don't mind being wrong. With my track record it's inevitable 🙄
  11. I'd hope they have already been talking to replacements. That might suggest someone other than Brendan.
  12. Speak of the devil Villa 0-3 Chelsea Cankovic, Reiten, Kerr
  13. Kerr was fantastic in the first half. WOTM so far.
  14. Villa 0-2 Chelsea Cankovic, Reiten
  15. Left me wondering whether pets take after their owners or vice versa.
  16. Women playing Villa on BBC Radio 5 Extra tonight (the game is on Sky). I must say, I can't stand the standard BBC commentators. They will, as usual, spend the whole game talking about Arsenal despite them not being on the pitch.
  17. Women are on DAZN tonight. DAZN UEFA Women's Champions League - YouTube
  18. To be honest, I am open-minded about the location as long as it's roughly in our traditional area and that there are good transport links and space available for a sensible size stadium. My only real concern is that I would like us to continue to have fan ownership of enough of the real estate that it protects against potential property developers. I don't have doubts about the intention of the current owners, but they won't be there forever. I would also like us to extend that scheme so that more fans can afford to get involved.
  19. Only seen the highlights, but I can't see what he could do about a deflection about two yards in front of him for the first or the shot that came through a crowd of players for the second. Did I miss something?
  20. No doubt, the full menu but maybe with a little less from the sweet trolley.
  21. I think you are confusing speculators who seek opportunities to enter and exit the market in order to get profit for a quick turnaround (e.g. someone like Soros) and investment companies who seek to build value over the long term. The latter base their decisions on strategies that seek to achieve a particular position in the future with the least risk. Often that means accepting short term losses and even seeking paths that do not maximise short term gains. All the same, there may be value in considering your analogy with respect to Potter. As investment people, Clearwater et al. are likely to be considering the long-term prospects for the business. They will be focusing on things like squad building, increasing match day revenues, facilities and so on. But, in the longer term, they will be looking to enhance the assets they have acquired (and to grow their value) through ancilliary business. I expect to see them pushing lots of partnership deals especially those that focus on building different kinds of customer relationships in the worldwide base of fans. From that perspective, Potter is only a very small component, but one they will try to stick with because they know the value of stability in a (currently) very unstable world.
