God forbid any of us should venture an opinion on the possibility of a player trying to reduce a ban by claiming addiction

It's his opinion. Might be true. Might not.

It did look like a pile-on from the outside.

You might want to read the very first post made about it before throwing your two cents in. It was not offered as an opinion.

Be honest, you'd be fine with people who know almost nothing about you having "opinions" that you were lying about difficult things you were going through to gain some sort of advantage? I sincerely doubt it, and you'd be right to challenge on it.

Weird how you can have the first opinion (ie the one you have an affinity with) but the ones disagreeing with it (ie the ones you don't like) are an issue. Maybe not all opinions are equal?

Included in the bets placed were 13 (reported number) on his own club to lose. He didn’t play in any of those games where he placed that type of bet.

He also initially denied the allegations.

So, a liar and someone who would risk a lifetime ban (maximum penalty for betting on your own club to lose), not the sort of character you want around.

He'd make a fortune out of us.

Martin's tone followed by your use of words such as disingenuous and unpleasant were the issue for me.

You're clearly a very trusting individual because you always appear willing to accept stuff on face value.

I, perhaps because I have worked on the frontline of counter-fraud for the past 20 years,  question everything and people's motives for what they say and do.

To be honest I quite enjoyed watching Blackburn tonight. Don’t get me wrong, very pleased that we won but the instinctive and organised play in that game was played by them.

Full of youngsters, who are clearly good footballers and look well drilled and coached. Their number 23 looked like a bag of bones but hardly put a foot wrong when he had the ball all game. Lacked a forward but so do we.

That number 23 was Adam Wharton - Going to be a really big talent.

£18m already looks a bargain for him. Just one of those young players you can see has got it. I wouldn’t be surprised  if Palace come under pressure to keep him this summer.  Either way, I don’t see him being there much longer than one more season, providing he doesn’t have a standstill season, which can happen with young players .

It stood out in this game,  I'd say as good if not potentially better, than at the time a much more lauded Archie Gray at Leeds - who's also very good.

Wharton looked the best in possession midfielder on the pitch that night.

Another young player who I saw this year who looked very interesting was the lad Barcoe at Brighton (and yes I know Brighton again). Had 25 minutes or so on the pitch during our recent gsme at their place so could be just a bit of a one off. But everything he did was positive,  be that attacking or defending. He looked confident and had a fantastic left foot. He looked 13 or 14 and was a bit on the short side. But quite interesting, going to keep a bit of a watch on his career.

Mentioned him in that match thread also.

Not seen him personally, as I didn’t catch the recent Brighton Chelsea game. Brighton were keen on him for a while, and he has a bit of a reputation. He’s the unusual ginger left sided argie isn’t he? I think he will likely breakthrough at PL level next season

He definitely a ginger/strawberry blonde.

Looked to have a good attitude when he came on, as well as good passing, delivery and also looked like he enjoyed defending.
