Really. I read somewhere last night that said one week out.

Going to miss him greatly if so.

Seems to be what's coming out right now.

"Could" is the important part though, so maybe it'll only be a couple weeks at most but may also be a bit longer.

April 15th is the estimate from EPL Injury Table (and they are more or less correct in their estimates).

Meaning we will be in big defensive trouble for:

Leeds (H), PL

Dortmund (H), CL

Leicester (A), PL

Everton (H), PL

Villa (H), PL

Liverpool (H), PL

Wolves (A), PL

Potentially 18point lost and bye bye to CL - says the "negative-me"

Six weeks is what I heard. Would be a mistake to try and rush him back. We've got Fofana ready to go so should be fine for Leeds. Dortmund however is another matter as obviously Koulibaly isn't available so Chalobah or god help us Cucurella.

That's a grim period to miss.

Thankfully we weren't winning any of those games anyway...

He is, but not Badiashile, right?

Anyone notice how Kane "accidentally" came down on Silva's knee? I swore at the time he did it deliberately. Looked at where he was going to land first.

Also left a nasty blind-side shoulder on Kepa but he's not that kind of player.

I'm not going to be picky over it because earlier Thiago Silva handed out a nice little elbow on one of their players.

Plus, I'd also kill to see a few others demonstrate a bit of nastiness and niggle at times. We're currently softer than mashed potatoes.

It was Romero so that was totally justified.

I follow Belle Silva on IG and yesterday she had a clip of Thiago at home having acupuncture on his damaged knee.

Now you would presume that the guy doing it is employed by the club but it did make me wonder.  How 'joined up' is the medical department especially with all the injuries we seem to be sustaining these days?

Whilst there is a building to house them, we don't have a medical department per se; pretty much everyone was sacked. We've been mostly using US based specialists for many of the injured players in the short term, and all the medicals of recent transferred players were carried out in various locations (under the previous regime, a couple of local private hospitals were used for these), from Italy to London to the USA.

Who knows if at some later stage we hire anyone on a permanent basis?

Thanks Bob.  I never realised this was the set up now.

Not sure it sounds great.

It was quite early in the season that Dr Paco Biosca was sacked. Others in the dept. were also sacked. Some also left of their own accord. No idea who might still be there. I presume there must be at least one doctor there at the moment.

Also sacked - which apparently didn't go down well with the players - was Thierry Laurent, the head physio.

To be honest, over the last few seasons we had seen an increase in both the number of injuries AND the time taken for players to recover, compared to the past, so there were bound to be some question marks. On the other hand, were some of these injuries and the associated recovery times, for example, related with our style of play (which had started to include high intensity pressing)?

This is absolutely a big contributor, have said as much for awhile now myself. The trend of high pressing football in an already high tempo and physical league, plus shorter off-seasons and delayed/interrupted pre-seasons, all add up. Throw in the sheer amount of football players are playing on top, at some point players are going to begin breaking down - if not fatigue quicker and see massive dips in form.

I've never really been a big believer that the old medical department where a big factor in our injury woes.

I wonder if there has been a "perfect storm" or different factors. The preseason was disrupted by the uncertainty following the takeover. TT didn't know who would be playing for us until the end of the transfer window after the season had started. The injuries we had before the world cup may have related to that (or not). However, the consequence of those injuries is that we increasingly relied on a smaller pool of players, some very young.  The extra stress to the player's bodies may have made it worse. Also, the larger number of substitutions may have had an impact because our depleted squad were playing teams with greater energy. Bringing in GP meant a different style of play and the frontline found it difficult to get results denting their confidence. When we brought in a lot of players over the winter, it may have been intended to help, but now we have an added problem of getting players who can adapt to a new league and a management problem deciding who to have on the bench and who to leave out altogether. Show we play Ziyech? Losing Broja was also a big blow because we were short of traditional strikers. If we add a major change to the medical treatment of players, we may simply have compounded a set of pre-existing problems.
