Opportunity for a massive early statement.

Arguably the best time to play them.

They tend to build momentum, to the point the last few games they steamroller everyone.

Was thinking the same, we are going to have to hit the ground running early on in the season before we get to the 19th October. Otherwise Maresca could be enjoying a nice relaxed Christmas at home with the family

On the subject of "aspiring to mediocrity" may I please take a quick straw poll?

Petrovic, Sanchez, Bettinelli

James, Gusto

Chillwell, Cucurella

W Fofana, Disasi, Badiashile, Adarabioyo, Gilchrist

Lavia, Caicedo, Ugochukwu

Chukwuemeka, Casadei, Santos, Fernandez

Mudryk, Olise

Sterling, Palmer, Madueke

Jackson, Nkunku, Duran

Would you be happy going into this coming season with the above squad?

I'm going into this season with a renewed vigour , I was optimistic when we hired Pochettino , enjoyed pre season and then the scales fell from my eyes before our late resurgence .

I'm really hoping Maresca is the one to get us back in the top four and Champions League where we can show those gooner bozo's who the top club in London are all over again .

I think that would do me , we'd have reasonable strength in depth with players with similar qualities ready to fill in for the players in the first team so it wouldn't be " Drogba is off , here comes Zola to replace him" and the side has to then play a totally different way ( which from memory they didn't) so yeah , I'd rather on balance want young hungry players over money motivated journeymen , I'd be happy .

Without looking I feel we've had much tougher starts before (albeit City being the first game).

We should have a settled team by the time we have that difficult run of games in October. If I recall correctly we had a tough run last season and came out better than expected (Spurs 4-1 and City 4-4 in the mix).

Not really relevant but I've just seen West Ham don't play outside the capital until November. Never seen that happen before.

You'll always have a tough run or two throughout the season the good thing with ours is they come at a time when the teams we play will most likely be far more bothered about the mid week European games than we are.

Very favourable rum of games after City, and I'd rather play them early than later on, could and probably should win all 6 games. Getting off to a good start is going to be very important and we have the perfect opportunity to do that.

Have you forgotten Colwill or have you sold him?

I hope we keep Gallagher and Chalobah (and Colwill). I think we will loan two of Ugochukwa/Casadei/Santos. We should also loan Gilchrist to a Championship team.

Olise is a great player, but with Madueke and Palmer already in the squad, plus two left-footed right wingers to join in summer 2025 I don't see the need for him.

Isak would be the dream forward for me.

All in all, I think it's a squad that should make the top 4. 2-4 more signings next summer then hopefully turns it into a squad that can challenge for the title, especially as we can hope that Guardiola will leave City!

Im actually quite happy with timing of both sets of those fixtures.

The Oct/Nov set comes early enough for us to recover if we get a string of bad results. Bette then,  than have a difficult run in Feb/March.

The last four.

I predict Liverpool will be out of the title race by then but will have secured top four, so they won't be as fired up.

Newcastle won't have much to play by then.

Utd making up the top 6 but nothing more.

Forest to have secured safety by then.

I say

Bit of a contradiction of your posting on the transfer thread.
